About the project author.
Safety Capsule is being developed at the intersection of technical education, applied design and project management. The concept has progressed from an initial idea to a full-scale physical prototype and preliminary load demonstrations, and continues toward further engineering development and production readiness.

Motivation
How the concept took shape.
The project began with a practical question: what can protect a person if an earthquake is already underway and safely leaving the building is no longer possible? During strong shaking, safety guidance focuses on moving away from hazards and finding a more protected position indoors. This led to the idea of integrating a reinforced space into furniture that is already part of everyday life.
The objective is not to turn a bedroom into a shelter. The product keeps the familiar appearance and everyday function of a bed while adding a protected internal space that can be accessed when needed.
Further development is based on the physical prototype, preliminary load demonstrations and step-by-step engineering refinement of the structure.

Product design & development
Applied design, structural concept development, prototyping and the development of practical, scalable solutions for disaster-prone regions.
Project management
Experience managing full project cycles, teams, budgets, procurement, monitoring and reporting. Work with international programmes and donors including the EU / ERICS-EaP, GIZ, Helvetas and BST/GMF.
Resilience in practice
Experience with humanitarian and resilience-focused projects in high-risk environments has shaped the project’s emphasis on deployability, simplicity and access for ordinary households.
Author’s role in the project
Development and author supervision.
Work on the concept, product design and development of Safety Capsule is ongoing. The author’s role includes:
- concept and product architecture;
- design of the physical prototype;
- organisation of preliminary full-scale load demonstrations;
- development of the modular product family and scaling logic;
- dialogue with engineers, manufacturers, investors and future users;
- continued author supervision and improvement of future versions.
The project clearly separates results already demonstrated on the physical prototype from performance characteristics that still require independent engineering validation, controlled testing and certification.
